Job Summary

The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) is seeking an experienced bookkeeper to join its Finance team as a Fiscal Specialist. Under the leadership of the Finance Director, the Finance team is responsible for managing the accounting and analysis of GNRC’s financial activity to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, invoicing, payroll, and financial reporting. The Finance team collaborates with GNRC’s administrative and program leadership to develop an annual operating budget.

GNRC was established in 1965 by the TN General Assembly as an association of local governments empowered to convene local and state leaders for the purposes of planning and programming state and federal investments into a range of social services and public infrastructure. GNRC serves as the region’s federally-recognized Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Area Agency on Aging and Disability (AAAD), and Economic Development District (EDD). More information is available at GNRC.org.

Job Responsibilities

As part of their responsibilities, the selected candidate will support GNRC’s Public Guardianship for the Elderly program by performing bookkeeping functions on behalf of court-appointed clients.  The program ensures the health and welfare of some of the state’s most vulnerable residents by serving as the court-appointed guardian for individuals age 60 and over who, due to physical or mental limitations, are unable to make personal decisions regarding their health and financial resources. The court utilizes the program as a public option of last resort for individuals who have no other family member, friend, bank, or corporation willing, able, or suitable to act on their behalf.

In general, the duties of the Fiscal Specialist include:

  • Reviewing and recording details of financial transaction, as assigned;
  • Providing bookkeeping services for Public Guardianship clients to include paying bills and other expenses, receiving checks and other income, making deposits, and reconciling bank accounts;
  • Fact-checking accounting data and notifying senior staff of accounting errors;
  • Preparing routine and ad hoc financial reports to support GNRC leadership, the Public Guardianship Program, and external partners;
  • Preparing documents and files for financial audits and program monitoring reviews; and
  • Performing other assignments as requested by the Finance Director.
