Book’em is seeking a part-time Book Bus Program Assistant to join our committed team – someone who is passionate about education, books, literacy, and children/teens and can help us provide meaningful experiences that benefit those we serve. This is a part-time position (15-20 hours/week) that will work in person. The schedule will vary based on book bus events, which will include some early mornings, weekdays, evenings, and weekends with advance notice.

Job Responsibilities
Assist with Book Bus Operations:
- Drive the book bus to scheduled appointments, events, and school visits.
- Help load and unload books and materials for each Book Bus visit.
- Set up and dismantle displays and reading areas.
- Ensure the Book Bus is clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Engage with Children and Families:
- Assist in conducting story times and other literacy activities.
- Help children select books and provide recommendations based on their interests and reading levels.
- Assist with surveys regarding the impact and effectiveness of the Book Bus Program.
Support Book Distribution:
- Manage the distribution of free books to children.
- Keep accurate records of book distribution and attendance.
Promote Literacy Programs:
- Educate visitors about Book’em’s programs and services as well as tours of the bus.
- Encourage participation in Book’em’s literacy initiatives.
Administrative Support:
- Assist with scheduling and planning Book Bus visits.
- Maintain inventory records and assist with book ordering and replenishment.
Qualifications
- Passion for children’s literacy and a genuine interest in working with children and families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a mobile work environment.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., email, inventory, Microsoft Office).
- Physical ability to lift and move boxes of books and materials.
- Ability and willingness to drive the book bus.
- Previous experience in education, childcare, library services, or a related field is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Background check and clearance to work with children.
Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Above moderate physical activity.
- Manual dexterity to reach/handle items, work with fingers and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, and balance on own.
- Final candidate must pass a thorough background check.
- Ability to drive large vehicles – short bus (not CDL size).

Benefits
- The pay rate is $16.00/hour.
- The position is considered an hourly employee working part-time.
- No health/medical benefits are available through Book’em.
- Paid time off for holidays, vacation, and personal time is included after a 90-day probationary period.
