Job Summary
The Treasurer of the Nashville Tree Conservation Corps (NTCC) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial health and sustainability. In collaboration with NTCC’s contracted accounting firm, the Treasurer ensures transparency, accountability, and sound financial management. Key responsibilities include financial oversight, budget management, fund allocation, compliance, and support for fundraising efforts. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, along with an understanding of financial reporting and nonprofit best practices. The estimated time commitment is 3-5 hours per month, with a two-year term and the opportunity to renew. Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight and Reporting
- Act as the primary liaison between NTCC and the contracted accounting firm to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Review monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, prepared by the accounting firm.
- Present financial updates to the board, ensuring clear communication and understanding of financial standing.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including IRS Form 990, in coordination with the accounting firm.
Budget Management
- Work with the Executive Director and Board to develop an annual budget aligned with strategic goals.
- Monitor financial performance against the budget and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Identify potential financial risks and provide mitigation strategies.
Fund Management and Oversight
- Oversee the allocation of funds, ensuring alignment with NTCC’s mission and donor intent.
- Ensure the accounting firm properly manages payroll, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
- Assist in developing financial strategies for fundraising campaigns, including NTCC’s tree sale and Operation Overstory.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure NTCC’s financial policies and procedures align with nonprofit best practices.
- Support board members in understanding financial reports to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Maintain compliance with applicable state and federal financial regulations with assistance from the accounting firm.
Fundraising and Development Support
- Collaborate with the fundraising committee to track financial goals and campaign performance.
- Provide input on grant applications and ensure proper financial reporting requirements are met.
- Support initiatives to secure sponsorships and other funding opportunities.
Board and Committee Engagement
- Actively participate in board meetings, providing financial insights to support strategic decisions.
- Serve on or advise the finance committee (if applicable).
- Promote a culture of financial transparency and accountability.
Qualifications
- Experience in accounting, finance, or a related field (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Commitment to NTCC’s mission and values, including transparency and accountability.
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and fundraising.
