Position Summary:

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Black Achievers Program Director, the program coordinator will support the daily operations of programming including leading after school clubs, managing a caseload of students, and student recruitment. The program coordinator is also responsible for working with staff to develop and implement quality programming to ensure the success of the program.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Execute program club meetings at assigned schools
  • Contact students for one-on-one meetings and coordinate schedules
  • Manage a case load of students as an advisor in career and college preparedness
  • Manage relationships with student officers and lead quarterly officer meetings
  • Engage student officers in student recruitment, marketing, and club activities for schools assigned
  • Represent the YMCA programs in the community by attending and hosting booths at schools for open houses, club fairs and community outreach events to strengthen the program’s presence and collaborative partnerships in the community
  • Plan and participate in field trips, college tours, and career exploration tours
  • Input and track student data utilizing the approved software
  • Help prepare materials for club meetings and events
  • Aid in the preparation of communication materials to reach out to  students
  • Support communication with club sponsors, teachers, and school administrators
  • Attend all necessary staff meetings with supervisor and YCAP team
  • Engage and participate in program fundraising efforts and other activities as needed
  • Assist in controlling and maintaining supplies and inventory on site
  • Carry out special projects and events as assigned by program leadership

An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our programs

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, BA/BS preferred
  • Experience in youth work preferred/ 2 to 3 years program experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration preferred
