Job Summary
Extended Learning Programs (ELP) Assistants provide direct service to students in Pre-K through 4th grades. They assist in developing and implementing educational programs in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. Under the supervision of the school’s Site Coordinator, the Assistant assesses and responds to children’s individual needs, assists students with setting and achieving their goals, communicates with parents, and assists other staff in providing ELP services.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervises students in before and after school programs.
- Assists the Site Supervisor in implementing instruction.
- Tutors students individually and in small groups
- Assists students in mastering standards and objectives and reinforces learning objectives.
- Assists students with exceptional needs, including English language learners and students with physical or learning disabilities.
- Ensures compliance with Metro Nashville Public Schools policies and procedures, state and federal grants, and the Department of Children Services and Human Services.
- Attend training sessions and meetings to maintain the minimum requirements for early childhood education.
- Assures the safety of ELP staff, families, and students by monitoring students and following safety protocols.
- Develops lesson materials, bulletin boards, equipment, and other signage.
- Organizes activities to support the whole child in the areas of academics, arts, health, and social/emotional development.
- Identifies and models best practices in instruction for age-appropriate and grant-funded programs.
Qualifications
Education (training/degree): Required minimum: High School or equivalent
Experience Requirements: At least one year of experience in early childhood is preferred
Skills Required:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Interpersonal kills
- Time management
- Professionalism skills to use with colleagues, students, and families
- Knowledge of Dept. Human Services regulations and guidelines for early childhood education
- Ability to copy, transcribe, enter, and post data or information.
- Proficient in addition and subtraction in documenting student progress, assisting students with academic coursework, etc.
- Reads and writes simple sentences and instructions; speaks simple sentences using basic grammar.
