Job Summary

The Recycling and Zero Waste Education Coordinator (Coordinator) leads in developing educational programs that will shape how Nashvillians see waste as a valuable resource. Through teaching about reuse and recycling, this role helps Nashville and the Public Works Department reduce the impact of waste on our planet and our community.

The Recycling and Zero Waste Education Coordinator serves with a 30-member cohort of community-focused individuals who receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and Hands On Nashville, Middle Tennessee’s volunteer resource center.

The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps program is made possible through the support of the Dan and Margaret Maddox Fund, Volunteer Tennessee, and participating AmeriCorps host organizations.

Job Responsibilities

Metro Nashville is looking for an outgoing Recycling and Zero Waste Education Coordinator  with an interest in leading and developing community education and outreach. The Coordinator develops and leads curriculum-based activities for K-12 students and community education programs.

Metro Nashville seeks an individual who has a passion for the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, who can engage both youth and adults. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, creative, proactive, and able to work independently to accomplish goals. Over the course of the yearlong term, the Coordinator manages all aspects of the student education programs and leads in developing new community outreach programs. The Coordinator gains experience with public education, communications and marketing, community outreach, program management, and public speaking.

• Develop programs, activities, and educational resources for in-person and virtual learning that meets curriculum standards for K-12 and college level students.
• Develop guidance and informational resources for the business sector on reducing waste in the workplace.
• Collect and analyze performance data to inform and improve educational programs.
• Utilize social media accounts to demonstrate the impact of the program and highlight volunteer/community education activities.
• Develop ‘Fix-It’ series of educational videos and resources on how to repair common household items to encourage repair and reuse.
• Work with Metro Nashville staff to provide resources in multiple languages to improve the accessibility of programs.

Qualifications

The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program is designed for entry-level or experienced professionals interested in a career in nonprofit management. You have amazing skills. We will teach you how to put them to work for the greater good.

Minimum Requirements

• Commitment to fulfill a one-year term of service (August 16, 2021 – July 29, 2022)
• Bachelor’s Degree. Experience can be accepted in lieu of education.
• Reliable access to transportation (Members will be reimbursed for service-related mileage.)
• U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
• National Service Criminal History Check clearance 

Physical Requirements

Responsibilities in the position may entail serving in the outdoors and potentially in inclement weather; Office or service environment may include noisy environments.; Service responsibilities require moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.;
