Job Summary

Summary:  The coordinator is responsible for working with Development Manager, CEO, Lobbyist Firm, and Policy and Advocacy Committee to assist in the education of policymakers and the general public about CARES and the work we do in the community in support of our mission to end the HIV epidemic in Middle Tennessee. 

Job Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategies, programs and activities necessary to carry out CARES’ policy and advocacy agenda
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of strategic alliances and the Tennessee AIDS Advocacy Network (TAAN) goals in conjunction with CARES’ lobbyists, key elected officials, community groups, other non-profits, neighborhood and business leaders, and HIV advocates of the TAAN across the state of Tennessee
  • Coordinate and attend meetings (virtual and/or in-person) with TAAN chapters, across the state of Tennessee involving related community projects, legislation, and initiatives
  • Provide education and support to the TAAN chapters and advocates
  • Develop website and maintain the content for the advocacy page, disseminate information related to policy and advocacy to TAAN chapters
  • Serve as the staff liaison for CARES’ TAAN chapters, Lobbyist and the Board Advocacy Committee, attending meetings with board leaders to support agency policy and advocacy goals
  • Work in partnership with CARES’ CEO, Development Manager Lobbyist and staff to develop project deliverables, project plans and timelines
  • Prepare and submit reports detailing program performance and outcomes
  • Support CARES’ Lobbyist in identifying and coordinating additional funding resources (foundations, businesses, leveraging of state and federal funds, etc.) to support the policy and advocacy goals
  • Represent CARES and promote the work of the agency by attending various community events, maintaining contacts with supporters, local businesses, service organizations, and the media
  • Participate and assist with Development and agency activities and projects, fundraisers, and events

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience and knowledge of public policy issues facing people living with HIV and their families
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Ability to embrace CARES’ mission
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with Bloomerang or a similar CRM preferred
  • Experience in working with people from various backgrounds
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license, automobile liability insurance and satisfactory DMV record

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bilingual highly desirable
