Job Summary

The Addiction Trauma Specialist provides individual and group services to address trauma and to enhance the addiction recovery efforts of patients seeking treatment at Cumberland Heights. Skilled in both addiction treatment and trauma treatment that is compatible with the 12 Step abstinence based philosophy, this position also provides staff consultation and training as assigned. Reporting to the Residential Clinical Administrator, the Addiction Trauma Specialist also works to assist staff throughout the organization in providing trauma informed addiction treatment services.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Screens, assesses, and diagnoses trauma related behaviors and/or disorders that may be impacting patients’ ability to access addiction treatment and initiate and/or maintain recovery efforts, acting within the scope of education, experience, and licensure.
  2. Collaboratively creates an individualized plan of care to address the areas identified, including ongoing continuing care and community support, working with the patient, primary counselor, and treatment team.
  3. Facilitates specialty individual and group therapy services for patients experiencing trauma related behaviors and/or disorders, within scope of practice defined by education, experience, and licensure, including, but not limited to EMDR, Som-Ex, Seeking Safety groups, and 12 Step based DBT Skills groups.
  4. Provides psycho-education regarding complex mental/emotional/spiritual issues related to trauma behaviors and/or disorders that may complicate recovery, as well as teaching specific skill sets to deal with them
  5. Documents clinical activities in electronic medical record, according to established policies and procedures.
  6. Consults with clinical treatment teams, participating in team meetings, treatment plan review, and clinical supervision as needed.
  7. Intervenes in crises to deescalate situation and resolve crises, using events as entries into therapeutic process for patient.
  8. Facilitates internal trainings related to trauma, trauma informed care, and trauma treatment to a wide variety of interdisciplinary staff members and departments as needed.
  9. Represents Cumberland Heights at outside professional meetings as needed, including presentations and marketing/development activities as assigned.
  10. Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
  11. Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
  12. Ensures proper handling and distribution of company funds.
  13. Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
  14. Reacts productively to change.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Psychiatric Nursing required; LPC-MSHP, LMFT, LCSW, or PMHNP required; a minimum of five (5) years behavioral healthcare experience required, two of which must be addiction specific in a 12 Step based setting as well as  a minimum of two years of  post-Master’s practice that includes working with clients with trauma related behaviors and/or disorders; EMDR training required with certification preferred; strong background in other trauma related treatment modalities (Som-Ex, DBT, etc.) preferred.

               

OTHER SKILLS

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to push/pull up to 40 pounds; ability to speak, hear, see, sit, walk, stand, reach and handle; ability to speak, read and write in English; excellent interpersonal skills; good problem-solving and analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; good dexterity; proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications, with ability to learn EMR system; expert understanding of 12 Step programs and philosophy; CPI, CPR/First Aid certified or eligible; active listening skills; ability to maintain a therapeutic environment using a variety of behavior management skills; ability to deescalate a person in crisis in a calm and supportive manner; knowledge of and ability to apply information regarding cultural/age/population specific characteristics to patient care in assigned area; skills in one or more evidence based theories/skills for SUD and trauma strongly preferred (DBT, EMDR, Som-Ex, Seeking Safety, etc.); demonstrated ability to maintain boundaries with strong personalities; If recovering, one year of abstinence required with five (5) years of abstinence strongly preferred
