Position Description

At FiftyForward we celebrate diversity in all its wonderful forms and are looking for an AmeriCorps Member who can both teach older adults and learn from them. If you believe you are never too old or too young to learn something new, join us as we help older adults love life after 50.

Is exercise your thing? Develop and lead a fitness class! You might be surprised at how long some of our members can hold a plank!  Love to cook? Develop a cooking class to showcase healthy meal prep or engage a community partner to teach a six-part course on nutrition. As FiftyForward’s Active Older Adult Health and Nutrition Leader you will work with a dedicated team of professionals to develop programs that keep active older adults healthy and fit so that they are able to enjoy their very best lives. Bring your specific skills to our team to help develop high quality programming and activities.

This AmeriCorps member will gain valuable experience in working with older adults.  This position is well suited for individuals interested in pursuing a position in social work, nutrition, or the medical field – especially PT, OT, or geriatric services.The member will gain experience in designing programs, working with volunteers and data collection to support program improvement.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement health related programming for active older adults.
  • Establish partnerships with providers of health and nutrition programming.
  • Collect and analyze data in order to enhance program services.
  • Assist with ongoing programming and services to support the tightknit group of existing Bordeaux center members
  • Attract new members to FiftyForward Bordeaux.

Typical Day In This Position 

A typical day in this role may include the AmeriCorps member leading a fitness class at FiftyForward Bordeaux. In the early afternoon they would reach out to community partners to organize a health fair.  Late afternoon might be spent at one of centers coordinating a healthy cooking class led by a volunteer chef.

Service Schedule 

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Competencies  

Members should have experience with or the willingness to develop competencies in these areas:

  • Work with active older adults
  • Appreciate diversity in all its forms
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Jump in where needed
  • Outgoing personality

Prerequisites: Associates Degree

Can professional experience be substituted for formal education: No

Physical Requirements 

Lift and carry up to 15lbs; Responsibilities in the position may entail sitting for extended periods of time;Responsibilities in this position may entail standing for extended periods of time; Office or service environment may include noisy environments; Service responsibilities require moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another; Service responsibilities require member to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; Service responsibilities require the member to communicate verbally via the telephone and/or computer;
