POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accelerating Scholars Site Coordinator is responsible for building a welcoming, supportive environment to ensure all tutors feel confident in serving as an Accelerating Scholars tutor. The Coordinator will support elementary schools in their cluster(s) throughout the district and will assist new volunteers and existing volunteers in an effort to increase volunteer retention. The Coordinator will also build relationships with businesses and organizations to recruit new volunteers to serve at Accelerating Scholars schools. The Coordinator will serve as the main link between tutors and the school. The Coordinator will be expected to serve as a tutor to have a complete picture of the tutor experience.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support paid and unpaid tutors to include but not limited to: matching, curriculum questions/guidance, facilitating in person tutoring sessions for new tutors, and alerting teachers when student absenteeism is diminishing tutor impact
  • Support Tutor Leads in tutor communication at the school level, roster development and maintenance, and other supports as identified by the individual Tutor Leads
  • Monitor Federal Work Study student participation at assigned school sites
  • Register students through the Connected Literacy portal
  • Develop coverage and communication plans for when tutors are unavailable
  • Support Volunteer Recruiter with recruiting tutors at the school level
  • Serve as primary liaison between schools and tutors, so that 90% of tutors are retained for the full program and successfully provide regular and meaningful tutoring sessions with their respective students
  • Monitor student and tutor engagement trends; communicate with tutors who have missed sessions; flag for tutor leads if students are absent
  • Develop sustainable tutoring processes and best practices for the program at the school-level; codify systems (create templates, systems, etc.) for in person tutor on boarding
  • Plan and executive parent and family engagement initiatives related to the Connected Literacy grant, which includes but not limited to: recruiting parent volunteers for engagement events, connecting with other groups to fill personnel gaps related to family engagement programming, etc.)
  • Partner with data team to host supplemental in-person training for GoSchoolBox at respective school sites
  • Develop, coordinate, execute tutor/volunteer appreciation activities

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – Associates degree with a Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, psychology, or related field
  • SKILLS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Enjoys working with children and with volunteers
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Superior interpersonal skills: ability to effectively interact with PENCIL staff, partners, volunteers, and other community stakeholders
  • Computer skills must include Outlook, Microsoft Word, and basic Excel worksheets
  • Ability to collect, process, and interpret data
  • Reliable transportation required
  • EXPERIENCE – two years of tutoring, program coordination, or teaching experience
  • CONFIDENTIALITY – ability to manage sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner as outlined in PENCIL’s Confidentiality Policy

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • Local travel between MNPS schools will be required (reliable transportation is needed as is a valid license)
  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance.
