Nonprofit Leadership: Part 1 (Online Classroom)

Registration is closed for this event
Are leaders born or made? Research has shown that leadership is a set of practices and skills that can be developed. Here at CNM we have structured our Nonprofit Leadership Certificate around these practices. This is the first part of a three part series.

** Please note, the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate requires you to be able to attend all 3 core courses.  You may register for all three core courses for the Spring Cohort by registering below.

Here are the dates for the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate - Spring cohort:

Nonprofit Leadership Certificate: Part 1 (Spring - Online) : 5/6/2020

Nonprofit Leadership Certificate: Part 2 (Spring) : 6/10/2020

Nonprofit Leadership Certificate: Part 3 (Spring) : 6/29/2020

The CNM Nonprofit Leadership Certificate has been revamped to incorporate The Leadership Challenge® framework. The Leadership Challenge® is an international bestselling book, workshop, and assessment tool that utilizes from over 30 years of research from authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner. From decades of research, Kouzes and Posner found that great leaders are consistently doing the same key actions, summed up in The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®.

The Leadership Challenge® Workshop will be presented in three parts, allowing participants time to explore each one of these practices in depth. Through an intensive cohort model, participants will have the opportunity for deeper learning and building stronger networks. See below for details of each session.

Before the first session each participant will take part in a leadership assessment called the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI). In Part 1 of the workshop the instructor will help the participants explore the twenty-page assessment report to learn how their manager, colleagues, and other observers view their leadership practices. The participants will then explore the first leadership practice called Model the Way, and start their individualized leadership action plan. Participants make commitments to practice their new skills before the next workshop.

Topics Addressed: Leadership Challenge®, The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®
Course Level: Advanced
Who should attend: Individuals who manage others and/or who hold responsibility within an organization

This work will amplify the impact of nonprofits by helping participants:

  • Use the Leadership Challenge® framework to better understand what makes a great leader in any organization.
  • Understand and practice the 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership®.
  • Identify personal leadership skills through a 360 degree assessment and create an action plan for change.
  • Learn how to inspire a team or organization through creation of a strong, synthesized vision.
  • Learn best practices for challenging the process and for managing change within an organization
  • Practice skills for engage, empower, and encourage the individuals we manage or interact with frequently.
  • Participants must sign up for all three parts of the workshop; because the sessions build on each other, participants may not signup for just one or two parts. For those looking to complete the CNM Leadership Certificate, participants must complete The Leadership Challenge® Workshop(Part 1, 2, 3) and then select 3 additional leadership elective courses from the CNM workshop calendar.

Q&A for the Leadership Certificate
The requirements for each certificate are different. Please see below for the specific details on the CNM Leadership Certificate.

How do I sign up for this certificate?
To sign up, register for the Certificate: CNM Leadership Development: Leadership Challenge® Workshop, which includes the three core classes. This enrolls you in the certificate; however, the certificate is not completed until you sign up for three additional elective courses.

Can I sign up for the CNM Leadership Development: Leadership Challenge® (to take the three core courses), and NOT sign up for the other three elective courses?
At this point you will be enrolled in the Leadership Certificate; however, it is your choice to finish the certificate and take the other electives. Participants are disenrolled from a certificate if it is not completed within one year of the first certificate class taken.

Can I take my elective courses before I finish my three core course?
Yes. Participants must take core courses in order (part 1, 2, 3, etc.). However, the elective courses can be taken in any order and at any point in the process (including before, during the same time,or after they are participating in the core course).

Can I just take one of the core classes? I only want to attend the Leadership Challenge Workshop Part 1.
No. For the Leadership Certificate core classes, you must take all three courses in order: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

I took one of the courses in the certificate last year. Does it count for the certificate this year?

Courses taken in 2019 may be applied to the certificates. Courses taken before 2019 may not be applied to the certificates.
