This workshop will feature a facilitated panel discussion among members of the D/deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard of hearing communities with the opportunity for Q&A. The discussion will focus on: the history of these communities, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), community-identified barriers to inclusion, access, and leadership, practical tips for identifying and breaking down barriers within organizations, and best practices in building equity and inclusion of these vibrant communities as your staff, clients, and volunteers.
Learning Objectives
- Identify personal and systemic barriers to the D/deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard of hearing communities, including myths and misunderstandings.
- Identify barriers and opportunities to remove them within your organizations to build equity and inclusion.
- Examine your legal responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and your organizational mission responsibilities to include and to represent these communities in your work.
Note: This workshop can be used as an elective for all CNM Certificate programs requiring additional electives for completion.
