Part 1:  Introduction to Social Change:  Thursday, May 6th, 2021 (9- 11:30 am, 12:30 - 3 pm CT)

This workshop consists of two parts; a Morning Session with Megan Godbey, and an afternoon session with Joy Bronson.

Morning Session with Megan Godbey
Join us in exploring what we can do to further empower our Nashville community through social change with Megan Godbey, the Adult Education Systems Manager for the Nashville Public Library. Collective Impact is a type of social change framework for bringing people together to work differently toward a common mission. In this session, learn what the Collective Impact framework is and how this approach can create community-wide change. Participants will learn what types of problems are best suited for Collective Impact (CI) and how this large-scale work can be structured to increase success.

Learning Objectives:
•    Identify the five conditions of the CI framework
•    Describe the evolution of the CI framework (CI 3.0)
•    Determine which types of social problems are best suited for the CI approach
•    Explain the difference between technical and adaptive problems

Afternoon Session  with Joy Bronson
Equity has become a national buzzword since our 2021 Presidential Inauguration. But what is equity, and why does it matter in systems change and community impact? What does it look like, and how do we practice for genuine and meaningful impact here in Nashville? Joy E. Bronson of CauseImpact, LLC will facilitate this introductory session on understanding equity as a work of community engagement and practice--and why it’s critical to begin practicing right where we are now.

Learning Objectives:
•    Interconnecting the importance of equity as itself a condition of successful systems change work.
•    Understanding the historical and present reality of the construction of systemic inequities--and so why they must be deconstructed to achieve equity.
•    Exploring the distinction between awareness, education, and practice.
•    Understanding the importance of equity practice in our own roles and spaces of power to become successful and competent in practice organizationally.

Part 3:  Building Your Equity Lens  with Sarah Bounse

Thursday, July 15th, 2021 (9- 11:30 am, 12:30 - 3 pm CT)

One strategy is to develop a specific set of questions that allow you and your organization to ask yourselves, “Is this policy/practice/program/initiative of ours equitable? If not, why and how can we make it more equitable and fairer?” This set of questions is your organization’s equity lens. Join Sarah Bounse to learn about equity and systemic inequities, what an equity lens is, and how to develop and implement your own equity lens, which can lead to systemic change in your organization and community. This workshop will include time and resources to help organizations develop their own specific equity lens for their particular sectors and focus areas.

Learning Objectives:
•    Identify what the basics of equity are and why they matter.
•    Learn critical points in history that have led to current inequities.
•    Identify strategies to embed equity into organizational practices, programs, and/or policies.
•    Learn how to develop your own equity lens and how it will help reach your mission and vision.
•    Explore tools for how to implement equity processes in your organization.
•    Participants will walk away with a drafted equity lens to share with their organization.
•    Understand what barriers Nashville organizations are facing in achieving equity
