Town Hall: Unveiling and Addressing Racism in the Nonprofit Sector

Registration is closed for this event

Event Description:

Over the past few years, there has been a rise in awareness of who is missing in the nonprofit sector. While it is great to see more diversity represented, the lack of authenticity has not gone unnoticed. Considering how we portray images of marginalized communities in our marketing materials, annual reports, or fundraising collateral, it is vital to understand the differences between inclusion and exploitation.

Join CNM for our final Town Hall of 2021 as we explore and identify how nonprofits tokenize (often unknowingly) historically marginalized individuals and communities, in turn reinforcing racism, promoting disparities, and potentially constraining progress for our most vulnerable communities. Hear from DEI experts and community leaders on authentically embedding the core values of equity into our mission to engage in collective action that can lead to true transformation and inclusion.

Topics Addressed:

  • Inclusion VS Tokenism

  • Shared language - using common language to understand societal issues

  • How we can move from charity to justice?

  • Exploitation VS Empowerment

Moderated by:

Beyond Dawn Stone's many years with CNM as a facilitator, consultant, and now full-time employee, Dawn is also the founder and owner of The Conflict Chick. With over 22 years of public speaking experience, an MBA in Marketing, and an MA in Conflict Management, Dawn is equipped to lead organizations into stronger corporate cultures and improved processes through education and training.
