Leadership Development Certificate

Are leaders born or made? Research has shown that leadership is a set of practices and skills that can be developed. Here at CNM we have structured our new CNM Leadership Certificate around these practices.

The CNM Leadership Certificate has been revamped to incorporate The Leadership Challenge® framework. The Leadership Challenge® is an international bestselling book, workshop, and assessment tool that utilizes from over 30 years of research from authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner. From decades of research, Kouzes and Posner found that great leaders are consistently doing the same key actions, summed up in The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®.

The Leadership Challenge® Workshop will be presented in three parts, allowing participants time to explore each one of these practices in depth. Each course will be facilitated by Kellee Mannix, CNM Director of Education who recently completed a Masters in Education with a focus in Leadership and Organizational Performance at Vanderbilt University. Through an intensive cohort model, participants will have the opportunity for deeper learning and building stronger networks. See below for details of each session.

See below for the list of core and elective workshops to choose from. For the core courses, there is a Spring Cohort, and a Fall Cohort. The Leadership Development elective classes are typically offered once a year.

FAQs for the Leadership Certificate

The requirements for each certificate are different. Please see below for the specific details on the CNM Leadership Certificate.

How do I sign up for this certificate?

To sign up, register for the Certificate: CNM Leadership Development: Leadership Challenge® Workshop, which includes the three core classes. This enrolls you in the certificate; however, the certificate is not completed until you sign up for three additional elective courses.

Can I just take the Leadership core 3 courses, and NOT sign up for the entire certificate (i.e. not finish the other three elective courses)?

At this point you will be enrolled in the Leadership Certificate; however, it is your choice to finish the certificate and take the other electives. Participants are disenrolled from a certificate if it is not completed within two years of the first certificate class taken.

Can I take my elective courses before I finish my three core course?

Yes. Participants must take core courses in order (part 1, 2, 3, etc.). However, the elective courses can be taken in any order and at any point in the process (including before, during the same time, or after they are participating in the core course).

Can I just take one of the core classes? I only want to attend the Leadership Challenge Workshop Part 1.

No. For the Leadership Certificate core classes, you must take all three courses in order: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

I took one of the courses in the certificate last year. Does it count for the certificate this year?

No. To complete this Leadership certificate, all participants can only apply classes in 2019. We have new course offerings in every certificate.

Is there any financial assistance available to offset the cost of the certificate?

Members from eligible organizations may apply MatchGrant funds to help offset the cost of the certificate program. MatchGrant funds are available to organizations with a budget of $2 million or less until the collective fund is fully utilized. For more information about MatchGrant eligibility, click here.
