Project Return helps people who are coming back from prison. Our mission is to provide services and connect people with resources needed to return successfully to work and community after incarceration. For over four decades, Project Return has done the work of reentry in Nashville, facilitating job search, job placement, and job retention, as well as providing wraparound intensive case management and a broad array of assistance and support, for people who come to Project Return with the determination to make a new beginning after incarceration. Project Return opened its second location in Chattanooga, TN in 2021
Position Description
The Business Development Director is a key leadership role responsible for developing, adapting, and managing the business models for Project Return’s entrepreneurial initiatives, which include providing transitional work opportunities for participants, building out our property solutions company, and conceptualizing new mission-centered business ventures. The person in this position will spearhead business growth by expanding current businesses and exploring new markets and opportunities for transitional employment opportunities across both Project Return locations. The Business Development Director is responsible for leading the business development strategy and implementation for Project Return. The Business Development Director reports directly to the Chief Strategy and Growth Officer.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic sales and marketing plans that successfully achieve business objectives
- Identify and develop new business opportunities through networking, cold calling, and other lead-generation strategies
- Establish relationships and contractual opportunities with businesses for transitional and long-term employment opportunities for Project Return participants
- Responsible for negotiation and execution of contracts with businesses in the Greater Nashville and Chattanooga area
- Increase footprint in current industries/ markets and identify pathways/strategies to get into new industries
- Monitor emerging markets and trends to identify potential revenue streams and business threats
- Utilize performance and financial data to analyze enterprise health and devise financially viable plans for next-stage growth
- Generate, launch, and grow new, entrepreneurial initiatives for mission-centered social enterprises
- Oversee the creation of marketing materials for the program
- Develop and promote weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales objectives
- Represent Project Return in the community, and develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with partnering entities and key stakeholders
- Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- 7+ years of sales experience in a leadership position such as a Sales Manager, Marketing Director, or similar role
- This position requires local travel and bi-monthly travel to Chattanooga to include overnight stays
- Proven track record in achieving sales targets and driving sales growth in a business
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to hire, train, and motivate a team.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to travel as needed
- Bachelor’s Degree required and Master’s Degree preferred, in Business, Business Management, Finance, or related field
- Familiarity with the Nashville, Chattanooga, and/or surrounding counties business community is preferred

Project Return partners with the state of TN for our benefits package. Full-time employees are eligible to receive full coverage of vision, dental, and medical insurance.
Project Return also provides paid leave for 12 vacation days and 12 sick days. Project Return observes 9 federally recognized holidays Full-time employees receive regular pay for these holidays.
