Job Summary
Job Description
Title: Puppeteer
Terms: 40 hours a week
Responsible to: Executive Director/Director of Programs
Job Responsibilities
- Present educational puppet programs to children and adults in the classroom setting. This will include day trips to schools up to 3 hours away and some overnight trips of up to 5 hours away.
- Learn Puppet Programs where there is an immediate need for a performer.
- Assist with loading/unloading van, and setting up/breaking down of equipment, stage, and props at performances.
- Attend regularly scheduled practices when not performing.
- Adhere to deadlines for script memorization.
- Attend training events that may require overnight stays.
- Attend and participate in other workshops and in-services to gain an understanding of the issues presented and feel comfortable in dealing with the questions the children ask the puppets during presentations.
Qualifications
- Have an interest in children and a desire to advocate for their needs.
- Possesses the ability to relate to educators, parents, children, and community members.
- Must have the ability and desire to develop puppetry skills.
- Must hold a driver’s license and be willing to drive long distances.
- Able to have a flexible schedule and work as needed when programs are scheduled.
- Able to stay overnight when traveling to schools over three hours away.
License/Certification:
- Driver’s License (Required)
