Community Health Worker is an umbrella term and includes community health representatives, promoters, peers and other workforce members who are frontline public health professionals that share life experience, trust, compassion, cultural and value alignment with the communities where they live and serve.

The Tennessee Community Health Worker Association (TNCHWA) is working with the grant-funded Community Health Worker Training Program of Tennessee (CHWTPT) to provide professional development and training opportunities for new and existing community health workers in Tennessee.

We are supported by the Tennessee Disability Coalition.

Position Summary:

The Training Coordinator position has been funded as part of a three-year grant through 2026. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Training Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of the TN Community Health Worker Association.

This position is 100% remote with the expectation that the employee can work with limited supervision from home. There is minimal expectation of travel/travel up to 20% of time.

The Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering the training curriculum to community health worker (CHW) trainees and monitoring the trainees self-paced progress in the educational platform. The curriculum is based on the CHW competencies including topics such as active listening, deep canvassing, cultural humility, etc. This position will also be responsible for working with site supervisors to monitor the trainees’ progress at field/apprentice sites.
The Community Health Worker Training coordinator functions as an employee of the Tennessee Disability Coalition dba Tennessee Community Health Worker Association.

Job Responsibilities

Key Duties:

  • Deliver curriculum and training with fidelity and in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner to up to 90 CHWs annually using popular/adult education methods
  • Assist executive director and project consultant with developing course calendar and enhancing curriculum materials
  • Conduct monthly one-to-one/group meetings with CHWTPT trainees to monitor progress and engage/retain to the program
  • Coordinate training calendar and program tracks (field placements, apprenticeships and/or upskilling) for new and existing CHW trainees
  • Conduct site visits for field placements/apprentices
  • Inform continuous quality improvement efforts related to the curriculum and programming
  • Assist executive director with trainee recruitment, engagement, and retention efforts
  • Work with grantor to manage the education platform, BrightSky
  • Enter program data into monitoring systems
  • Assist with completion of program reporting

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
  • Five years working as a Community Health Worker or related position
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with trainees, team members, and community partners
  • Strong in-person and virtual facilitation skills and ability to provide effective instructions to CHW trainees
  • Organized and able to consistently meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to operate virtual learning platforms
  • Ability to document data using online software
  • Experience with popular/adult education teaching and learning strategies
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective communication with and between individuals and groups of people from varying socioeconomic, ethnic, and ability backgrounds
  • Must be able to travel (mostly in-state)
