Job Summary

As the backbone agency for the Tennessee Alliance for Economic Mobility (TAEM), a new public-private partnership compromised of 32 organizations, the Martha O’Bryan Center is now hiring positions that will be critical to the collaborative’s success. Through a three-year $25 million investment from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, TAEM will reimagine how to support families in moving out of poverty and into opportunity. Across 7 counties, TAEM will support 900 families in moving beyond the benefits cliff—the point when families abruptly lose their benefits due to often nominal increases in income (think: just a few dollars more per hour), which leaves families worse off financially when they increase their income. In making the most fiscally responsible decision for their families, many limit their potential by not pursuing increased earnings or education in response. Through an innovative transitional benefit, financial counseling, family-centered coaching, wrap-around supports, and equitable access to employment and education pathways, TAEM will demonstrate a new way forward for the Tennessee safety net, thus creating a scalable statewide solution that incentivizes employment and increases family self-sufficiency.



Martha O’Bryan Center (MOBC) is an anti-poverty non-profit organization with longstanding history and deep community roots, grounded in tradition and strengthened by innovation.  Founded in 1894 when Miss O’Bryan organized the Gleaners Society at First Presbyterian Church to support impoverished North Nashville residents, Martha O’Bryan Center has operated from the heart of Cayce Place – Nashville’s most distressed community – since 1948.  This is where we continue in service, partnering with Cayce Place families to open doors of hope and possibility, create a culture of attainment, and positively shape future generations.  Martha O’Bryan Center serves 12,000 people annually with its programs in early learning, parent empowerment, youth development, adult education, food security, crisis counseling and public charter schools East End Prep and Explore! Community School.

The Family-Centered Coach works directly with participants in a collaborative process to help identify and achieve children, caregiver, and family goals. Using Family Centered Coaching, the Coach strives to serve the whole family, keeping the participants in the driver’s seat, and centering families as the experts on their own strengths and perceived challenges ahead. This is a full time, regular position, located at the Martha O’Bryan Center. This position reports to the Senior Director of Clinical and Community Services.

Job Responsibilities


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads families in Family Coaching and Care Coordination, helping build a team of support that surrounds each family and guides them towards their self-identified goals. 
  • Connects families with needed and available community resources including but not limited to TAEM partner’s services and TAEM’s Navigators and Specialists. 
  • Provides holistic and comprehensive services to caregivers including intake assessments, goal setting, long-term action plan development, progress monitoring (including ASSM and appropriate assessments), advocacy and referrals. 
  • Meets with family on a regularly scheduled basis (based on tiers) for 18-36 months on average. 
  • Maintains 25 enrolled families at a given time 
  • Conducts home visits as needed. 
  • Inputs family participation, progress, and assessments in TAEM’s data system; uses data to make informed decisions and improve family interactions and supports.



The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in fields of Human or Social Services, Education, or related field
  • Two or more years of experience working with families and young children.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, family-centered coaching, conscious discipline, and ACES preferred.

  • Limited regional travel within Middle Tennessee (up to 10%).
