OnBoard: Preparing Your Managers and Employees for Service

Presented by the Center for Nonprofit Management and Hands On Nashville, OnBoard prepares participants for service on nonprofit organizations’ boards of directors and introduces them to agencies that may benefit from their involvement. Through OnBoard, managers and employees have the opportunity to learn about the nonprofit sector and key topics and trends within it from the Center’s expert trainers. CNM and Hands On have created a specialized and affordable program that can be brought to your office at a convenient time to train and mobilize your workforce. The one-day program and subsequent activity is as follows:

Step 1: Training for Service

9 – 11 a.m.: The Purpose and Leadership Responsibilities of the Board
In this first session, participants will learn why nonprofit boards exist, the nonprofit lifecycle stages, and the purpose that the board serves to the nonprofit and the community.

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Board Financial Requirements and Hidden Traps
This session will provide an understanding of the specific accounting and basic financial statement reporting requirements related to nonprofit agencies.

12:30 – 1:30 p.m: Development and Fundraising.
This session will look at fundraising from the national and local perspective in regard to trends and opportunities in the sector.

Step 2: Placement

1:30 – 2:00 p.m.: Personal Service Interest Assessment
A member of Hands On Nashville’s staff works with participants on assessing strengths and interests in order to match individuals with the right organization.

Follow-up: Hands On Nashville Placement
The Hands On Nashville team will use this assessment to work with nonprofit agencies and match the participants interests with placement on a local nonprofit board.
