Board Training

The Center is committed to nonprofit board leadership and governance, so we have designed custom opportunities to train board members. CNM board training gives nonprofit boards the knowledge and tools to govern effectively.

Board Training topics include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards
  • Board/CEO/Staff relations
  • Legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Board assessments
  • The board’s role in fundraising
  • Committee structure and roles
  • Effective board meetings
  • The board and strategic planning
  • Advisory boards
  • Trends in governance
CNM custom board training gives you the ability to focus on one topic or multiple topics depending on the needs of your organization. A CNM training session will include best practices of the board, interactive discussion among participants, and case study activities.

Please contact Ave Trotter at 615.259.3911, ext. 15 or ave@cnm.org to learn more about how our consultants can help your agency’s board.

Board training formats include:

  • The Nonprofit Board Refresher: A 45-Minute Opportunity: The Center for Nonprofit Management is prepared to help you smooth out the rough edges through a program designed just for you. Our expert consultants will spend forty-five minutes with your board— at its meeting—at your location.
  • OnBoard: The OnBoard program prepares individuals for nonprofit board service. It gives them the opportunity to learn about the nonprofit sector and key topics and trends within it from CNM’s expert trainers. Following this educational component, OnBoard participants will complete a survey that identifies the issue areas they seek to address through service—from homelessness to environmental protection. Hands On Nashville will then work to match these individuals with organizations seeking qualified board candidates.
